A Change of Heart - February 2016

A Change of Heart
By Connie Hawkins

The other day sitting in a restaurant with a friend I overhead two women talking about their marriages.
“I’m tired of doing all the work,” one said to the other. “I’m resigning as chief cook and bottle-washer.  I’m tired of picking up after everyone, planning all the meals, doing all the shopping, keeping track of bills, kids, and schedules. I quit!”
“I know what you mean,” said the other. “I’m tired of being taken for granted.  I feel like a floor mat.  If this is love, who needs it!”
I couldn’t help but smile. I myself have felt the same way many times. With Valentine’s Day close at hand, perhaps, we should take another look at love and in so doing put an “e” on the end of mat--. We are help mates not floor mats for love is the passionate desire of two people to produce conditions in which they can be themselves yet come together as one.
God did create woman from the rib of man.  She was not made of his head to top him, nor of his feet to be trampled upon, but of his side to be equal with him, under his arm to be protected and near his heart to be beloved.
Of all the gifts we could give to one another this Valentine’s Day, I believe the best gift is the same gift God gives to us, His unconditional love.  February 14 the day the world emphasizes “love” is a good time for a change of heart; only God can create in us a new heart, a right spirit.  Only personal faith in Christ brings cleansing inside and out.
